Description. Holotype, ♂ (Fig. 1). Head: Eyes bare. Frons heavily grey dusted, narrowing gradually from
level of ocellar triangle to just above antennal bases, Frontal and interfrontal setulae very long, equal in
length to orbital seta which is only distinguishable due to its greater thickness. Orbital plate black, dulled
by microsculpture, bearing 2 setulae on left side and 0 on right. Postocular setulae long, on upper part of head more than 0.8x length of outer vertical
seta, becoming slightly shorter laterally. Lunule ground colour black, setulae obscured
by shrinkage of the face. Interfacials and face heavily dusted silver-grey, central carina
moderately developed. Anterior genal setulae forming a single regularly spaced row
of 3 – 4 along mouth edge, these not noticeably stronger than other setulae on the genae.
Antennae entirely black, antennal postpedicell length to depth ratio 1.5 : 1.0. Arista
black, microscopically pubescent. Thorax: Scutum sub shining blue-black, covered with
light grey dusting, with a dense covering of long black setulae which are approximately the
same length as orbital seta. Anepisterum greydusted
especially anteriorly, apparently with 2 anterior setae and 4 posterior, but these difficult
to distinguish from other numerous long setulae on the sclerite. Proepisternum with 1
long seta, 2 slightly weaker setae on proepimeron. Katepisternum with two setae on each
side, with a few long almost as strong setulae lying along dorsal margin anterior to these.
Scutellum black, slightly pollinose on disc, on margin with 3 setulae on left, 4 on right side
between lateral setae, 2 between apical setae, these almost half as long as marginal setae.
Calypteres dark with a short black fringe. Wing: length 3.7 mm, membrane covered in
relatively long black microtrichia. Intercostal section of wing, between insertion of Sc and
R1, approximately 4.5x length of crossvein r-m. Legs, including all tarsomeres, entirely
black, basal tarsomeres of front and hind legs with a short ventral fringe of golden setulae.
Male terminalia (Figs 2–5): In lateral view epandrium, tapering dorsally, 1.6x as wide
as high, with a row of strong setae along posterior part of ventral margins. Surstylus
protruding posteroventrally beyond shell of epandrium as a rather blunt triangular process, extending to half height of cerci; anteriorly the surstylus
projects as a small, hooked process. Cerci relatively large and rectangular, approximately half height of epandrium;
bearing numerous strong setae along ventral margin and a loose row of 5setae ventrally. Inner surface
of surstylus with approximately 25 strong black setae directed ventrally, medially with a dense area of short
spicules which extend onto the triangular posteroventral projection. Phallus bi-segmented, in lateral view
basiphallus a broad tube, tapering only slightly apically, base of basiphallus recurved and projected posterad.
Distiphallus approximately 0.75x length of basiphallus and less than half its width, sinuous, basally sharply
angled with a small, rounded basal lobe.
