Lonchaea baekje
Description. Male: Head. Eyes covered in a scatter of very short pale
hairs. Frons subshining black, covered in fine microsculpture, Frontal
and interfrontal setulae approximately one quarter length of orbital
seta. Orbital plates bare apart from the orbital seta, shining blue-black.
Lunule black, face and parafacials very lightly grey p[pollinose. Antennae
black, length to depth ratio of 1st antennal flagellomere 3.75:1,
orange along ventral surface. Arista bare. Anterior genal setulae in a
single row along mouth margin.
Thorax; Anepisternum with a posterior vertical row of 4 equally
strong, long seta, lying dorsal to these one further seta approximately
60% of their length, anteriorly with a row of 4 shorter setae which are
not easy to distinguish amongst the long setulae which cover most of
the sclerite. Katepisternumwith one long, dorsally curving seta, remainder
of scleritewith numerous long setulaewhich are approximately half
the length of the seta, one or two of these positioned posterior to the
strong seta. Proepisternum and proepimeron each with 1 relatively
strong seta. Scutellum with disc sub shining grey black, in contrast to
the blue-black of the thoracic dorsum, on margin with 2/3 setulae
between lateral and apical setae and 2 between apical setae, these
setulae approximately one-third length of the setae. Calypteres white
with a uniform white fringe. Wings clear, veins whitish-yellow, wing
length 3.8 mm. Legs all black, basal two tarsomeres of each leg pale
yellow, apical tarsomeres darkened, fore tibia slightly yellow at apex
on ventral surface.
Male terminalia: (Figs. 2–5). In lateral view epandriumas wide as
it is high, with slight anterior and posterior processes, numerous
long setulae posteriorly, a few of these reaching out past the cerci.
Cerci rather rectangular but with an obvious ventral rounded lobe
which is slightly chitinised, this bearing numerous short setulae, a
double row of short setulae also near the posterior margin. Surstylus
projecting from shell of epandrium posteriorly as two processes,
posterior one rather irregular in shape, anterior one thumb-like. In
ventral view no obvious row of setae along ventral margin of
surstylus. In internal view surstylus relatively small, posterior margin
with a rectangular partly setulose process and lying ventral to
this a smaller thumb-like process, inner surface with a singlemedian
row of 7–8 well spaced, strong setae with ventral to these a scatter of
4-5 smaller setulae, area dorsal to the row of strong setae covered in
small papules. Phallus in one section, a very simple J-shape with a
very small inner process at base of apical section.
Female; Apical segment of aculeuswith a pair of strong. black setulae
ventrally at apex, these almost as long as the apical segment, a pair of
slightly shorter and weaker pale setulae at the base dorsally and a
very small pair at apex dorsally.
