Dasiops latifrons
Ecology:
Bezzi (1919) notes that D. latifrons "is well known for producing the curious, plait shaped galls near the root of the grass Cynodon dactylon L. which were first described and figured by Giraud (1861. Verh. Zool.-Bot. Ges. Wien, XI, p486, pl.xvii, fig.6.). The galls were however noted as early as 1680 by Francesco Redi (Osten Sacken, 1883, Bull. Soc. Ent.Ital.XV, 187-188)
