Lonchaea silla
Description. Male: Head. Eyes bare. Frons subshining black, covered
in fine microsculpture, frontal and interfrontal setulae short, less than
o.25% length of orbital setae. Orbital plate shining black, bare apart
fromthe orbital seta. Lunulewith brownish orange base colour, covered
in slight silver pollinosity as are parafacials and face. Anterior genal
setae in a single row of 6–7 along mouth margin. Antennae black, 1st
flagellomere with length to depth ratio 2.6:1 extensively orange on
inner base. Thoracic disc subshining blue-black, covered in dense short
setulae approx. 33% length of orbital seta. Anepisternum with one rather fine anterior setae and 3 or 4 in a vertical row along the posterior margin,
the remainder of the tergite covered with rather fine short setulae.
Katepisternum with 1 long, strong setae near dorsal margin, anterior to
this sclerite covered in numerous fine setulae. Proepisternum and
proepimeron each with 1 seta. Prosternum bare. Scutellum on margin
with 3 to 4 setulae between lateral and apical setae and a pair between
apical setae, these setulae approximately 33% length of the setae.
Calypteres white with a white uniform fringe. Wing length 3.85 mm,
wing membrane clear, veins yellow/brown. Legs entirely black, dense
ventral fringe of stiff golden setulae on fore and hind basal tarsomeres,
these also extending on to ventral surface of fore tibiawhich underlying
these setulae has a yellow ground colour for its apical 20%.
Male terminalia: (Figs. 15–18). In lateral view epandrium rectangular
in shape, slightly higher than wide, bearing setulae along posterior margin
the longest of these reaching to posterior margin of cerci, Cerci relatively large, their height approximately half the height of the
epandrium, bearing numerous fine setulae ventrally and in loose lateral
rows near posterior margin. Surstylus projecting from shell of epandrium
posteriorly as a small rounded process. Inner view of surstylus shows the
rounded posterior process and a moderately serrated ventral margin
bearing a row of setulae, inner surface with a scatter of approximately
14 setae with remainder of surface covered in numerous tiny setulae.
Phallus two segmented, basiphallus simple and rather broad, distiphallus
also broad, slightly flared at apex, entire phallus rather darkened.
Female: Similar to male but with wider frons and generally shorter
setulae.
