North American Protearomyia species

Three species of Protearomyia are known at present from North America, P. trichopleura, P. martinia and P. cordillerensis. They can be sepperated by reference to the key to world species produced by McAlpine (1983) - a relevant synopsis is produced here:

1. Anepimeron with a weak setae, first flagellomere nearly two times as long as broad .........  trichopleura

2. Thorax and abdomen quite dull, Calypterae with yellowish white frnges. male genitalia with prensisetal process bidentate ............................................................................................  martinia

Thorax and abdomen distinctly shining. calypterae with distinctly brownish fringes. Male genitalia with prensisetal process tridentate  .........................................................................  cordillerensis
