Abstract: | Around 100 species of lance flies (Diptera: Lonchaeidae) are known from Europe, of which 54 have previously been reported from Sweden. Here, the recently described and rare lonchaeid fly Earomyia netherlandica MacGowan, 2004 is reported from Sweden for the first time. A male specimen was collected on May 30, 2007 near Beijershamn on Öland, southeastern Sweden. The species is currently known from six specimens collected in England, the Netherlands, Hungary and Sweden. All sites contain a mix of dry open areas, fens, carr and wet decidious forests. E. netherlandica appears to have a rather short flight period during early summer. This may at least in part explain its apparent rarity. |
