Neosilba batesi
Neosilba batesi was first described from Guatemala by Curran in 1932. It is probably one of the most common species of Neosilba in Central America
Parasites
Neosilba batesi is parasitized by Lopheucoila anastrephae and Aganaspis pelleranoi (Hymenoptera, Eucoilinae*). 74 specimens of L. anastrephae collected in Costa Rica were reared from isolated puparia of N. batesi. A. pelleranoi may only rarely attack lonchaeids. Of 295 specimens of A. pelleranoi reared from isolated puparia in Costa Rica, only two were from N. batesi. *Members of the subfamily Eucoilinae are solitary endoparasitoids that oviposit in the larval stage of cyclorrhaphous Diptera and emerge as adults from the host puparium
The larvae are polyphagous, having been recorded from fruit of Mangifera indica (mango), Citrus sinensis (sweet orange), Carica papaya (papaya), Guilielma gasipaes (peach palm), and Persea americana Mill. (avocado) and also from the seedpods of Inga spp.,
In Mexico avocado fruit placed on the ground in orchards (n = 3,600) were occasionally infested by N. batesi
